Features of SSW

Those who can work in Japan as a SSW must:

  • Be over 18 years old
  • Be in good health
  • Have the necessary occupational skills to work immediately without receiving any particular training
Work That Can Be Conducted as a SSW

The specific work you can do as a SSW in Japan is categorized into the following 16 industrial fields:

Types of SSW

There are two types of SSW status of residence:

  • Type (i): Requires basic skills
  • Type (ii): Requires more specialized skills
Requirements and Length of Stay
  • To work under an SSW status of residence, you need to pass a Japanese language test and a skills proficiency test.
  • You do not need to pass these tests if you have satisfactorily completed Technical Intern Training.
  • SSWs can work in Japan for a total of five years or more, depending on their SSW type.
